Music therapy may improve fibromyalgia symptoms

The most common symptoms of fibromyalgia tend to be pain, fatigue, anxiety, insomnia and depression. There is now research that shows that music therapy may improve fibromyalgias most common symptoms.

University of Granada researchers say that they have proven that music therapy, combined with other relaxation techniques, significantly reduced the pain, depression, anxiety and improves sleep in fibromyalgia.

Music therapy consists of singing, song writing, listening to, moving to and discussing music. Research has shown that each phase of music therapy has a positive affect on the symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Example: Listening to music while lying in bed or reclining in a chair can help you relax, releives anxiety and promotes sleep. Tapping your foot to the music or doing some basic, simple dance moves can improve coordination, increase steadiness and improve motor skill for people with fibromyalgia and others.

So, besides helping you to relax and fall asleep, music therapy can help other areas of fibromyalgia. If you sit and write songs, this can help with word search, memory and improve communication.

Fibromyalgia patients have many symptoms, not just pain. They have motor skill problems, problems with walking and keeping balance, coordination problems, memory problems, word search difficulties, and many other depending on the individual and how serious your fibromyalgia is.

It looks like music may be a really good therapy to look at if you have fibromyalgia. I would start by putting a CD player by the bed and using slow, soft music to help with insomnia. Insomnia is a huge problem with fibromyalgia. Insomnia leads to other problems such as poor concentration, poor coordination and word search, among others.

So, get yourself a bedside CD player and some soft musci CD. And, tonight when you go to bed, try some music therapy. Tomorrow, revisit this site and let me know how it went that first night. Keep me updated, join in conversation. Let's help each other with this chronic disorder!!

  1. Hi, found your blog through Twitter...thanks for the follow- I followed you, too!

I don't want this to be a bunch of links, but check out The Blogging Buddies

And check out this product, NatraBurst...many people with fibro have found relief since using this.

I can say for me it that the pain in my "trigger finger" is gone although it's still a bit stiff. Been using the stuff about 2 months.

Anyhoo....I have a couple of blogs, although I have been terrible about posting lately.
