Fibromyalgia treatments: Meditation

Meditation is one of those treatments that are thought of last or not at all when it comes to treating chronic pain in Fibromyalgia. Yet, it is a very effective treatment method if used right. Most people don't make enough time to meditate the correct way, if you use it to reduce pain. There are several ways in which you can create an effective environment for practicing meditation for pain control. Here are some things you can do to ensure that you are getting the most out of meditation:

Environment:

A quiet environment is most important if you are using meditation for pain relief. Usually you can use your bedroom, actually sitting on your bed with the door shut. You should shut off the lights for a conductive environment for meditation.

Using incense can also help clear your mind for meditation. Use odors that are light and soothing such as Lavender. You can purchase incense cones or sticks from department stores such as Walmart or K-mart.

Comfort:

Most people who use meditation for pain relief, sit on their bed. You must be comfortable to clear your mind of all outside influences. You can also use a mat, such as what you would use for yoga, but I find the bed to be more comfortable.

How to clear your mind for meditation:

You will be sitting in the dark, in your bedroom. Sit "Indian Style", with your legs crossed and close you eyes. You bedroom is the best environment for meditating because it is already conductive of rest and sleep, so therefore it is already a calming place. Make sure your family or anyone else in your home knows that you need complete quiet with no interruptions to meditate effectively.

How to clear your mind:

Clearing your mind is not as hard as you may think. Start with your most "loud" and upfront thought. Think about pushing it out of your mind. The thought is not important and you can push it out of your head. Take each thought individually and push them out of your mind one by one until your mind is empty of all thoughts.

The thought of pain should be the last thought you push away because it should be your "loudest". The thought of pain may also be the hardest to "push" away, but keep trying and you will succeed. Sometimes it takes longer to get your pain thought out of your mind.

The act of meditation:

After you have cleared all of your thoughts from your mind, stay that way for as long as you can. Aim for a half an hour of clear conscious meditation. During this time make sure you think you pain away. You can do this by thinking "there is no pain" over and over, softly until your pain diminishes.

There are actually people that can meditate anyone, with any amount of noise, but this takes a lot of practice.

Meditation is an effective treatment method for fibromyalgia and chronic pain. It is also good for reducing stress, which can also reduce pain levels. Practice meditation by following the information in this article, which will help you reduce your pain.
