Effects of massage cupping therapy:
Cupping creates a suction that softens tissues and tight muscles, increases circulation of both blood and lymph vessels and releases fluids and toxins that can collect in tight, painful muscles. These "actions" help relax sore muscles and relieves chronic pain areas of the body. Fibromyalgia patients can greatly benefit from cupping massage because of these benefits.
There are three types of massage cupping therapy:
Retained cupping:
Retained cupping therapy is the most commonly used type of cupping. During retained cupping therapy the cups are applied and left in place for a few seconds to several minutes, depending on the treatment protocol and patient tolerance.
Momentary cupping:
During momentary cupping therapy the cups are placed on and off the skin quickly, creating a "popping" sound. Momentary cupping is continued for as long as tolerated by the patient as this is the most painful type of cupping. Momentary cupping is effective for loosening tight muscles quickly.
Slidding cupping:
During slidding cupping therapy, oil is first aaplied to the skin. After applying oil, the cup is applied then slid along the skin while maintaining the suction. The area usually treated with slidding cupping is large, such as the back, stomach or thigh.. Slidding cupping therapy is continued until softening of the muscle and connective tissue is observed.
Cupping can be used on most any part of the body that regular massage therapy is used. Cupping releases rigid soft tissue and removes stubborn knots in the muscles, making an very effective treatment method for fibromyalgia pain.
Cupping therapy is not painful, but may be slightly uncomfortable. Cupping massage therapy can leave bruises where the cups are applied. These bruises should go away within a eight days hours after cupping massage therapy is finished.
Before trying massage cupping therapy talk to your doctor. Your doctor can tell you if cupping massage therapy is a treatment method that may benefit your type of pain.
