Types of Fibromyalgia pain and the remedies/treatments to ease it

When you suffer from Fibromyalgia, the main symptoms you have to deal with is pain. There are pain types that are “normal” and some that are just “weird. I have this “weird” pain that's like a stinging, squeezing and sharp pain all in one. I call it the “evil squeeze”.

In this article We're going to discuss the many “normal” Fibromyalgia pains and how to treat them. We are also going to talk about the “weird” names out there in “Fibroland” that we tend to make up. Here are some of the more common names for different types of Fibromyalgia pain:

Trigger point:

Trigger point pain is the pain that is used for diagnosis. This type of pain is increased when pressure is pit on the specific area and radiates out around that spot. A person is deemed to have a positive diagnosis if 11 of 18 of their trigger points produce a radiating increase in pain.

The most effective treatment for trigger point pain are trigger point injections. Rigger point injections are given in the spot of pain. Lidocaine is usually used to numb the area. Numbing the trigger point areas allows them to calm down and release the increased pain.

To treat trigger point paint at home, try a deep massage. You will usually feel spasms when you massage the trigger point areas. If your lucky, you can talk your significant other into giving you a deep massage. Use a moderate amount of pressure or you will not be able to “release” the knots and decrease the pain.

Tender point:

Tender point pain is an off and on pain, usually felt during a flair up. Tender point pain is not used for diagnosis. Tender point pain is like trigger point pain in the fact that they are both painful in certain spots. But, Tender point pain does not radiate anywhere when pressure is applied.

Flu-like classic Fibromyalgia pain:

This is the classic Fibromyalgia pain. The “pain all over” pain. The achy, flu-like pain of Fibromyalgia. This pain is almost always there and is usually a dull ache, much like you get when you have the flu, hence the name flu-like.

At home, you can use either a large ice pack or a heat pack. For my “pain all over”, I use both. Sometimes the heat works better and sometimes it's the ice that helps. Do not leave either ice or heat on for longer than 20 minutes at a time.

Neurontin is my drug of choice for this classic flu-like Fibromyalgia pain. There have been times when I would run out of Neurontin for a week or more and that's the first pain that came back. It's even worse when you have gotten almost rid of it for a few years.

Then there are the types of pain that you may get, but not everyone will have that specific pain just because you do. And they still have Fibromyalgia. Some of my types of pain that I have-sort of-named Are:

Stabbing, sharp pain:

This is the kind of pain I get when I have done too much bending and lifting that day. This sharp, stabbing pain usually shoots across my lumbar area, neck area and thigh are, although not always at the same time. This is about a number 6-7,8 pain on a scale of 1-10. That's pretty severe, although not “dying” pain.

At home, you can use a vibrating, massaging back massager to decrease this type of Fibromyalgia pain. You can also use Ben Gay, although it's not that effective, just a little. Ice works well, but not every time.

I believe this is caused from my herniated disks. That's what my doctors all said. I have no reason not to believe them. They did every test they could think of. Make sure you trust your doctor and that he/she does what you feel is a good job. Trust your instincts.

Electric nerve pain:

This type of Fibromyalgia pain feels like electricity spasming through my body. There is a kind of numbness in areas of my arms, fingers and lowers legs, including feet. This pain is pain+discomfort x8+. I almost can't stand this type of pain.

I use ice for this type of Fibromyalgia pain. It almost numbs the pain enough to provide comfort to the area. I have tried other home remedies, but ice seems to help the most. Bags of peas work great for pain in multiple pain areas. You can numb, which decreases multiple areas of pain, at once.

As far as medications, Unfortunately xanax works wonders for me. Why do I say unfortunately? Because it is a highly addictive narcotic medication. Although it may not work for you. I have also have Fibromyalgia and

There are other people with Fibromyalgia across the net, that names their unique type of pains. Many of these pain names are very personal to each individual. Fibromyalgia pain can be the same, and different in each individual. We all have different ways to deal with this crazy pain. These are the ways I deal with my quirky fibro. Pain...How do you deal with yours??
